A 22-year-old final-year pharmacy student from Daund in Pune district fell victim to a honey trap orchestrated by a woman and her six accomplices. The incident occurred on May 27, a day after the woman first contacted him over the phone. The student was allegedly lured into a meeting, where he was assaulted and robbed of Rs 10,000. The accused also threatened to implicate him in a false molestation case unless he paid an additional Rs 1 lakh.
The victim, a resident of Ahilyanagar district, is a student at a private college and had been staying with a relative in Daund. According to police reports, on May 26, the student was sitting outside his residence when a woman appeared nearby and smiled at him. She then gestured for him to follow her. The student complied, maintaining a distance, and handed her a piece of paper with his mobile number before returning home. Later that night, the woman called him.
The following day, May 27, the woman instructed the student to meet her near his house. Upon arrival, she led him to a secluded area where six men on two motorcycles were waiting. The woman took his cellphone, while one of the accomplices snatched Rs 10,000 from him. When the student raised an alarm, the gang forced him onto a motorcycle, transported him to another location, and severely assaulted him with dangerous weapons. He sustained injuries to his head, face, chest, and back.
The student was found unconscious by a police team and was taken to a hospital for treatment. After being discharged, he approached the Daund police on Sunday to file a complaint. The police have registered a case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including sections 115 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons), 118 (voluntarily causing hurt to extort property), 119 (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt to extort property), 308 (extortion), and 189, 190, and 191 (rioting).
An officer from the Pune Rural police confirmed that a search is underway for all seven accused. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to track down the culprits.
