NEW DELHI: A ragpicker woman sleeping on a footpath in Delhi's Palam area was allegedly sexually harassed by a passerby, according to police reports. The incident took place on May 24, 2026, when the accused, a resident of the Palam area employed at a tent house, approached the woman.
Incident Details
Police received a PCR call on May 24 reporting that a man was inappropriately touching a woman on the footpath. Officers promptly arrived at the scene and found the ragpicker woman present. However, the woman told police that nothing had occurred and that she did not wish to pursue any legal action.
Police Investigation and Arrest
Despite the victim's reluctance, a search was launched for the accused based on the PCR call. The suspect was later traced and arrested. A case has been registered under Sections 74, 75, and 296 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), based on the statement of the PCR caller.
The police have emphasized that they are committed to ensuring the safety of all citizens, including vulnerable populations such as ragpickers. Further investigations are ongoing.
