A 32-year-old woman, who worked as a manager at a premium salon in Lucknow, was discovered dead inside her eighth-floor flat in a posh apartment complex in Gomti Nagar Extension on Tuesday. Police were forced to break open the door after repeated attempts to contact her failed.
Video and Phone Call Before Death
Before taking the extreme step, the woman uploaded a video on social media, in which she was seen weeping and alleging mental harassment by her employer and colleagues as the reason driving her to suicide. She also informed one of her friends over the phone about her intentions. The friend subsequently alerted the police.
In the video, which has been circulating on social media, she named five individuals, including the salon owner and colleagues. “Those named by the woman in the video include her employer and colleagues, and we are investigating the matter before taking action,” said Sudheer Awasthi, Station House Officer (SHO) of Gomti Nagar Extension police station.
Police Break Open Door
According to police, the incident came to light around 2:30 am when they received information that a woman resident of an apartment on Shaheed Path had locked herself inside and was not responding despite repeated calls from neighbours and security staff. “A police team found the flat locked from inside and, with the help of neighbours and tower security guards, broke open the door,” the SHO added.
Inside the room, officers found the woman’s body hanging from the ceiling. They brought the body down and informed senior officials. “During preliminary inquiry, police found that the woman was originally from Gorakhpur district and had been living alone in the apartment. She was a manager at a salon in the Gomti Nagar Extension police station area,” said police.
Investigation Underway
Police have informed the woman’s family, and the body has been sent for post-mortem. A mobile phone recovered from the spot has been seized for investigation. Authorities are examining the video and other evidence to determine the exact circumstances leading to her death.
This tragic incident highlights the severe impact of workplace harassment on mental health. The police have assured a thorough investigation into the allegations made by the deceased.
