Videos from a recent celebration with Samantha Ruth Prabhu and her husband, filmmaker Raj Nidimoru, have sparked fresh pregnancy speculation online. Although the couple has not commented, the rumours have led fans to revisit the actress's earlier statements about her plans for motherhood.
Samantha's 2018 Remarks on Starting a Family
According to SCREEN, Samantha had spoken candidly about family planning years before her current marriage. In 2018, shortly after marrying actor Naga Chaitanya, she faced repeated questions about motherhood. During one interaction, she revealed that she and Chaitanya had already discussed a timeline for their first child.
With humour, Samantha said, “The date has been fixed! Like, as if that’s going to happen according to the date we have fixed! But Chay seems to be certain that it will happen on the assigned date!” She added, “But we have definitely fixed the timeline as to when we want to have a baby.”
The actress also explained that having a child would change her professional priorities. She envisioned devoting herself fully to motherhood during the early years. “When I have a child, that child is going to be my universe. I had the greatest respect for working mothers. My childhood was not very rosy. For all adults, who haven’t had a very rosy childhood, the first thing they will tell you is that they want to give their child everything that they did not have. That’s something that has stuck with me. So I think the first few years after I have a child, I would not be anywhere. That child will be everything for me,” she shared.
Shaakuntalam Was Meant to Be Her Last Film Before a Break
During promotions for 'Shaakuntalam', producer Neelima Guna recalled a conversation that shed more light on Samantha's plans. According to her, the actress had requested that filming be completed within a specific schedule because she intended to focus on family life afterward.
Neelima revealed, “Last year itself, when my father director Gunasekhar garu and I approached Samantha for Shaakuntalam, she loved the story and was very excited by it, but she told us that if she were to accept the role, the shooting should be completed by maximum July/August this year. She informed me that she was planning to start a family and that she wants to become a mother and that it would be her priority.”
The producer added that Samantha had initially viewed 'Shaakuntalam' as her final project before an extended break from acting. The team adjusted their schedules to accommodate her plans. “As soon as she heard that, she was very happy and onboard with this. She told me that this would be her last film and that after this, she wants to take a long break and have children, plan her family. Through the schedules also, we never took a break since we wanted to accommodate this request from her side,” Neelima said.
Life Took a Different Turn
Samantha and Naga Chaitanya parted ways in 2021 after four years of marriage. Chaitanya later married actress Sobhita Dhulipala, while Samantha married filmmaker Raj Nidimoru in December 2025. As conversations around her personal life continue, her old remarks offer a glimpse into a time when motherhood was a carefully considered part of her future plans.
