A Gujarati singer has filed a cheating and breach of trust complaint with Naranpura police, alleging that a builder and a project manager sold her booked flat to another buyer and failed to refund nearly Rs 29 lakh paid by her over several years.
Details of the Complaint
According to the FIR, the singer and her husband decided to purchase a new home in 2019 and learned of a residential project, Satyam Skyline-2, in Naranpura through a family friend. After visiting the site, they booked a flat for Rs 1.05 crore. The developer had allegedly promised possession of the flat by December 31, 2022.
Police said the complainant paid Rs 32.7 lakh between December 2019 and June 2022 through cheques and cash. An agreement to sell was executed in August 2021, and project documents included a commitment that construction would be completed within the deadline.
Financial Difficulties and Assurance of Refund
The complaint states that due to financial difficulties and her husband’s medical expenses following a bypass surgery, the family was unable to make payments as scheduled. During discussions with the project representatives, the complainant was allegedly assured that the amount already paid would be refunded if she was unable to proceed with the purchase.
Flat Sold to Another Buyer
However, in 2024, the family learned that the flat booked by them had been sold to another buyer. When they sought clarification, they were offered another flat. The complainant, however, turned down the offer and sought a refund. The FIR alleges that the accused returned only Rs 4 lakh and failed to repay the remaining Rs 28.7 lakh.
