In a bizarre incident in Prayagraj, a 16-year-old boy allegedly staged his own kidnapping on Friday after being upset over his father's scolding. The High School student, a resident of Belwa village under Kaudhiyara police limits, reportedly planned to flee to Mumbai and even involved his 14-year-old younger brother, a Class IX student, to help script and narrate the fake abduction story to their family and the police.
The Incident Unfolds
According to police, the teenager was reprimanded by his father for not focusing on studies or contributing to the family. Aggrieved by the scolding, he decided to stage his own kidnapping. On Friday morning, both brothers left home on the pretext of attending tuition classes. Around half an hour later, the younger sibling returned and told family members that a group of four masked men in a car had kidnapped his elder brother near Mavaiya village and later let him off after a short distance.
Police Investigation
The family alerted the police, prompting a swift response. DCP Yamuna Nagar Vivek Chandra Yadav, along with police teams, reached the spot and began questioning the younger boy. During interrogation, the 14-year-old broke down and confessed to the fabricated story. Police revealed that the teenager was in contact with a social media friend and had planned his move to Mumbai. CCTV footage analysis showed no signs of kidnapping; instead, the boy was seen boarding an e-rickshaw and later another vehicle en route to the railway station.
“Police teams were immediately deployed to trace and bring the student back home,” said DCP Yadav. The boy was eventually located and returned to his family. Authorities have advised parents to monitor their children's activities and maintain open communication to prevent such incidents.
This case highlights the emotional distress that can arise from family conflicts and the dangers of involving minors in deceptive schemes. The police have urged the public to report any suspicious activities promptly.
