Wagner Moura in Talks for 'Ocean's Eleven' Prequel Villain Role

Wagner Moura is in discussions to join Margot Robbie and Bradley Cooper in Warner Bros.' upcoming 'Ocean's Eleven' prequel. The Brazilian actor is being considered for the role of the main antagonist, though the studio has not disclosed specifics about his character.

Cooper to Direct and Star

Bradley Cooper will direct, write, produce, and star in the untitled heist film, while Margot Robbie will both star and produce through her LuckyChap company. Production is scheduled to commence in France in late July, with filming beginning in Paris before moving to the south of France, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. Warner Bros. has slated the film for release on June 25, 2027.

Previous Antagonists in the Franchise

If Moura finalizes the deal, he will join a line of notable actors who have portrayed villains in the franchise. Andy Garcia played casino owner Terry Benedict in 2001's 'Ocean's Eleven.' Vincent Cassel appeared as master thief François Toulour in 'Ocean's Twelve,' and Al Pacino portrayed casino developer Willy Bank in 'Ocean's Thirteen.'

Moura's Recent Work

Moura recently earned an Academy Award nomination for his performance in 'The Secret Agent.' His other credits include Netflix's 'Narcos,' Alex Garland's 'Civil War,' 'Dope Thief,' and the 'Elite Squad' films. He is also working with Kristen Stewart on A24's vampire thriller 'Flesh of the Gods,' directed by Panos Cosmatos.

Story Details Revealed

Margot Robbie shared the first major story details during CinemaCon 2026. She confirmed that she and Cooper will play Danny Ocean's parents, the thief originally portrayed by George Clooney in Steven Soderbergh's trilogy. "Before Danny Ocean ever stepped foot in Vegas, two masterminds taught him everything he knows: His parents," Robbie said. "You'll see them in their prime, and in our new movie, pulling off an epic heist at the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix."

Screenplay and Production Team

Cooper wrote the current screenplay based on characters created by George Clayton Johnson and Jack Golden Russell. Carrie Solomon worked on earlier drafts. Robbie, Cooper, and Tom Ackerley are producing the prequel. Executive producers include Josey McNamara, Bronte Payne, Bobby Wilhelm, Jay Roach, Michelle Graham, Lee Isaac Chung, Ashley Jay Sandberg, Gary Ross, and Olivia Milch.

The movie will mark the franchise's first release since the Sandra Bullock-led 'Ocean's 8' arrived in 2018.
