Rings of Power Season 4 Preps Begin; Season 3 in November

As the wait for 'The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power' Season 3 continues, the makers on Thursday announced plans to move forward with a fourth season. According to reports, the UK-based production is preparing to begin preproduction for Season 4 later this fall, with filming tentatively expected to begin in early 2027, as stated by The Hollywood Reporter. While Prime Video has not officially greenlit the new season, the streaming platform is said to remain committed to expanding its ambitious adaptation of J. R. R. Tolkien’s Second Age mythology. Given the current production timeline, Season 4 is expected to premiere sometime in 2028 if development proceeds as planned.

Season 3 Details and Timeline

Season 3 of 'The Rings of Power', which is slated to premiere in November 2025, will reportedly jump ahead 'several years' from the events of Season 2. The new chapter is expected to unfold during 'the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron,' as the Dark Lord moves closer to forging the One Ring to rule over all of Middle-earth. Initial reports have indicated that the hit series will wrap up after five seasons.

Resurgence of Interest in Middle-earth

The reports also come at a time when there is a resurgence of interest in the Lord of the Rings franchise across film and television. Among the major upcoming projects is 'The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum', directed by Andy Serkis, which is scheduled for release on December 17, 2027. Serkis will reprise his iconic motion-capture role as Gollum, while Ian McKellen and Elijah Wood are set to return as Gandalf and Frodo respectively. Jamie Dornan will reportedly take on the role of Aragorn in the film, which is set between the events of The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring.
