Director Clarifies Casting Status
Director Siddharth P Malhotra has confirmed that no actor has been finalized for the lead role in his upcoming biopic 'Kamal Aur Meena', which chronicles the lives of legendary actress Meena Kumari and her filmmaker-husband Kamal Amrohi. Despite widespread reports linking actress Kiara Advani to the role of Meena Kumari, Malhotra stated that no decision has been made.
In an interview with Mid-Day, Malhotra said, 'Till it’s not locked, it’s not locked. It’s not only the actor; it’s the overall cost of the thing that is a determinant.' This statement underscores that casting depends on multiple factors, including budget considerations.
Script Complete with Notable Writers
The script for 'Kamal Aur Meena' is locked, with the screenplay written by Bhavani Iyer and dialogues by Kausar Munir. The film is based on 2,000 letters and diary notes exchanged between Meena Kumari and Kamal Amrohi, providing an intimate look into their relationship.
This is not the first attempt at a Meena Kumari biopic. Fashion designer and producer Manish Malhotra had earlier announced a separate project with Kriti Sanon in the lead, but he later stepped away from it.
Malhotra's Other Project Set for Release
Meanwhile, Malhotra’s courtroom thriller 'Ikka', starring Sunny Deol and Akshaye Khanna, is set to premiere on Netflix on July 10. As for 'Kamal Aur Meena', the search for the right cast continues, with no timeline announced for finalizing the lead actors.
