Pune transforms into a vibrant hub for global storytelling as the Pune International Film Festival kicks off its 24th edition. The festival runs from January 15 to 22, 2026, bringing award-winning films and independent voices to eager audiences.
Celebrating Guru Dutt's Legacy
This year's festival honors the birth centenary of legendary filmmaker Guru Dutt. The celebrated producer, actor, and director left an indelible mark on Indian cinema with classics like Pyaasa and Kaagaz Ke Phool. Special screenings and discussions will pay tribute to his enduring influence throughout the week.
Festival Venues and Screenings
Organized jointly by the Government of Maharashtra and the Pune Film Foundation, PIFF 2026 unfolds across ten screens in Pune. Six screens operate at PVR ICON in Pavilion Mall, three at E-Square on University Road, and one at the NFDC–NFAI campus on Law College Road. Film lovers can enjoy approximately 140 carefully curated films across various sections.
Opening and Closing Films
The festival opens with La Grazia from Italy, directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Paolo Sorrentino. Known for his visually stunning and emotionally deep work, Sorrentino sets a high standard for the week. On January 22, the closing film Father Mother Sister Brother will screen. This restrained family drama comes from American independent cinema icon Jim Jarmusch, co-produced by the USA, Ireland, and France.

PIFF received an overwhelming response for its World Cinema Competition this year. More than 900 submissions poured in from 103 countries, showcasing the festival's growing international appeal. From these entries, organizers shortlisted 14 films for the final round.
An international jury will evaluate the competing films. The winning entry receives the Maharashtra Government's Sant Tukaram Award for Excellence in International Cinema. This prestigious award carries a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh.
