The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has raised strong objections to the 'unnecessary questioning' of devotees visiting the Parikrama of the Golden Temple by certain vloggers and media personnel. In a statement issued on Wednesday, SGPC chief secretary Kulwant Singh Mannan expressed concern over the practice, emphasizing that lakhs of devotees visit the Golden Temple daily with deep devotion.
Disruption of Sanctity
Mannan stated that questioning devotees during their visit not only hurts their religious sentiments but also disrupts the sanctity of the Parikrama. He reminded that there are already clear directives from the Akal Takht prohibiting any interviews or byte recordings within the Parikrama premises.
Appeal to Media and Vloggers
The SGPC has appealed to all media organizations and journalists to refrain from conducting any kind of interviews or question-answer sessions inside the Parikrama. If there is a need to gather reactions from devotees on any issue, it should be done only at designated places outside the Parikrama, as per the committee's instructions.
Concerns Over AI-Generated Content
Mannan also urged people to avoid broadcasting any objectionable content created using artificial intelligence technology related to the Golden Temple, Sikh Gurus, or Sikh symbols. The committee stressed the importance of preserving the spiritual atmosphere of the holy site and respecting the sentiments of the devotees.
The SGPC's statement comes amid growing concerns over the behavior of some content creators who prioritize viral content over religious decorum. The committee has called for strict adherence to the existing guidelines to maintain the sanctity of one of Sikhism's holiest sites.
