Tragic Death of Trichy Student Following Actor Vijay's Convoy Accident
A 19-year-old college student from Trichy, who was critically injured in a motorcycle accident while following the convoy of actor and political leader Vijay, has tragically passed away. The incident, which occurred on March 4, culminated in the student's death at a private hospital in Trichy on Monday, marking a somber turn in what began as an attempt to catch a glimpse of the popular figure.
Details of the Fatal Incident
The accident unfolded on the Trichy-Thanjavur highway around 11 am on March 4. Vijay had arrived at Trichy airport earlier that morning at approximately 9:40 am and proceeded by van to Ayyasamipatti near Sengipatti in Thanjavur district, where he addressed a gathering of his party members. As his vehicle traveled along the highway, it attracted a crowd of followers on motorcycles eager to see the actor.
During this pursuit, a motorcycle carrying two young men collided with the rear of a police vehicle that was part of the convoy. The rider, identified as P Vignesh, 19, from Keelakalkandarkottai in Trichy, sustained severe head injuries in the crash. His pillion rider, Arun, aged 20, suffered injuries to his left leg. Both were immediately rushed to a private hospital in Thanjavur for emergency treatment.
Medical Journey and Family's Anguish
Vignesh, a third-year BCom student at a city college, was initially placed in the intensive care unit at the Thanjavur hospital due to the gravity of his injuries. His condition remained critical, leading to his transfer to another private hospital in Trichy on March 20 for specialized care. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries on Monday, leaving his family and community in mourning.
According to family members, Vignesh had told them he was heading to college on the day of the incident, but instead went to see Vijay. They only learned about the accident later, adding to their distress. His father, Pandiyan, runs a small milk business, and the family is now grappling with the sudden loss.
Legal Proceedings and Police Action
Police authorities have taken serious note of the incident. Initially, a case was registered under sections 281 and 125(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertain to rash or negligent driving and endangering human life. Following Vignesh's death, the police have added Section 106(1) to the case, which addresses causing death by negligence. This escalation underscores the legal ramifications of the tragic event.
The accident highlights the dangers associated with large public gatherings and vehicular pursuits, especially when involving high-profile individuals. It serves as a stark reminder of the need for caution on roads and during such events to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
