Insights into the New Show and Character Portrayal
Speaking about his latest venture, Tarun Khanna expressed enthusiasm for the unique concept of Hey Bhagwaan. He remarked, "It's an interesting concept where God meets his bhakt. That, to me, is the ultimate fantasy for any human being." Despite his familiarity with the role, the actor candidly admitted that nervousness is a constant companion. "I am always nervous whenever I play this character. Every time I step on stage or face the camera as Mahadev, I get butterflies in my stomach," he shared, emphasizing the profound respect and responsibility he feels.
From Rejection to Realization: A Divine Calling
Khanna's association with Lord Shiva traces back to 2013, when he auditioned for the titular role in Devon Ke Dev... Mahadev but was not selected. Reflecting on that pivotal moment, he recalled, "I clearly remember auditioning for Mahadev and not being selected. I asked Shiva only one thing: where did I fall short and why didn't I get the role? After that, there was a continuous journey of playing this character. It feels like I am living my dream, and I feel blessed to get another opportunity to portray Lord Shiva on screen." This journey from rejection to repeated casting underscores a spiritual and professional evolution.
Balancing Mythological Identity with Diverse Roles
While mythological roles have become a significant part of his identity, Tarun Khanna has actively pursued varied characters beyond this genre. He stated, "I feel blessed to be offered this role again and again because, in the end, I am getting to play Mahadev, the god of gods. That is a huge compliment for any actor." Simultaneously, he emphasized his commitment to diversity: "At the same time, I do step out of this mould. I've had people who see me differently and cast me in other roles. In the OTT space, I have played varied characters, including a recent project where I portrayed a completely negative role with no justification or backstory. He was simply bad, and I enjoyed doing it." This balance showcases his range and adaptability as an actor.
