Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Announces Major Ayurveda Institute in Ujjain
In a significant development for traditional medicine, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced on Wednesday that the Madhya Pradesh government is actively working to establish an All India Institute of Ayurveda in Ujjain. This institute will be modeled after the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), aiming to elevate Ayurveda to new heights in the region.
Proposal Submitted to Central Government
Speaking at the inauguration of the first-ever 'Shri Mahakal Van Mela-2026' in Ujjain, Chief Minister Yadav revealed that a formal proposal has already been sent to the Union government. He emphasized that this initiative aligns with the Union Finance Minister's budget speech, which proposed establishing three All India Institutes of Ayurveda across the country to boost the Ayurveda and traditional medicine sector.
Ujjain, known as the 'karmabhoomi' of Lord Dhanvantari and the land of Simhastha, is set to become a hub for Ayurvedic education and research.
Expansion of Medical and Ayurvedic Education
Yadav highlighted the state government's rapid efforts to increase the number of medical and Ayurvedic colleges. Last year, eight new Ayurvedic colleges were established in various districts of Madhya Pradesh. The chief minister assured that the pace of this expansion will be further accelerated this year, demonstrating a strong commitment to healthcare and traditional medicine.
Launch of Initiatives and Honors at Mahakal Van Mela
During the event, Chief Minister Yadav launched several key initiatives, including:
- Vindhya Herbals natural colors and gulal
- The Mahakal Smriti Gift Kit
- 'Mahakal Van Prasadam'
He also honored forest guard Jagdish Prasad Ahirwar from Panna district with a certificate of appreciation. Ahirwar was recognized for his exceptional knowledge of forest-based healing practices. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had previously praised Ahirwar's efforts to preserve indigenous knowledge of forest herbs in his 'Mann Ki Baat' address on January 25.
Mahakal Van Mela: A Platform for Local Artisans
The Mahakal Van Mela is designed to provide a market platform for local forest produce and artisans. This event aims to support rural economies and promote sustainable practices, aligning with the broader goals of enhancing traditional medicine and community welfare.
This announcement marks a pivotal step in integrating modern medical frameworks with ancient Ayurvedic wisdom, potentially transforming healthcare in Madhya Pradesh and beyond.
