In a significant rebound from last year's terror attack impact, registrations for the Amarnath Yatra have surged in Ludhiana, with pilgrims flocking to complete mandatory medical examinations at the civil hospital. Health officials report a substantial increase in numbers compared to the corresponding period last year, marking a positive trend for the annual pilgrimage.
Registration Numbers Reflect 23.7% Increase
Official data reveals that between April 15 and April 20 this year, 2,385 pilgrims registered for medical certificates at Ludhiana's civil hospital. This represents a notable rise from the 1,928 registrations recorded during the same timeframe last year, translating to a 23.7% increase. The registration process commenced on April 15 this year, whereas it started earlier on April 11 last year, yet daily figures have shown consistent growth.
On April 15 alone, 630 pilgrims underwent medical certification, nearly double the 317 registrations on the same date in 2025. Even the lowest daily registration this year, at 289 between April 15 and 20, surpassed last year's corresponding low of 198. This upward trend indicates a robust recovery from the downturn experienced after the Pahalgam terror attack, which had previously dampened turnout.
Enhanced Medical Facilities Streamline Process
Health authorities have implemented elaborate arrangements to facilitate the medical examinations. Dr. Akhil Sareen, SMO at the civil hospital, stated that dedicated teams have been deployed, including:

- Interns and nursing students
- Ward attendants and security personnel
A one-stop centre has been established under one roof to streamline the process. Dr. Sareen explained the steps involved:

- Report at the medical examination counter
Additional amenities such as seating arrangements, separate washrooms, and access to clean drinking water have been provided to ensure comfort and efficiency. Pilgrims like Bhavesh Singh Rajput, who visited with his mother Rajni Bala, noted that arrangements were noticeably better this year, with the process completed within minutes.
Renewed Enthusiasm Drives Pilgrim Participation
Religious leaders attribute the rise in registrations to a renewed sense of enthusiasm among devotees. Varun Mehta, Malwa zone head of Sanatan Sewa Samiti, highlighted that many who could not undertake the pilgrimage last year due to the terror incident are eager to participate now. He also observed growing interest among youngsters above 18 years, largely fueled by social media exposure to Yatra-related images and videos.
Mehta mentioned that his son, Rudra, plans to go on the Yatra this year with friends and is currently undergoing medical examination. He projected that the total number of pilgrims from Ludhiana could reach 17,000 to 18,000 this year, reflecting a strong comeback.
Pilgrims at the civil hospital echoed similar sentiments. Manu Bagga (30) of Gandhi Nagar expressed eagerness after missing the pilgrimage last year and expects more friends to join this time.
