Residents of Ameenpur, one of the fastest-growing localities in Hyderabad's western corridor, are confronting a severe environmental and public health crisis due to the presence of a dumping yard in their neighborhood. According to local reports, nearly 30 residential colonies are affected by persistent foul odors and deteriorating environmental conditions, with the situation escalating into a major community concern.
Unbearable Living Conditions and Health Risks
Local residents describe the stench during garbage transportation as overwhelming, compounded by thick smoke from frequent waste burning that has become unbearable for families. Despite numerous complaints filed with municipal authorities, the issue remains unresolved, creating significant risks to both public health and the local ecosystem. Many residents report that what was initially planned almost six years ago as a garbage transfer station by the local municipality has gradually transformed into a full-fledged dumping ground, far exceeding its intended capacity and designated purpose.

Recently, the Ameenpur People's Association (APA) submitted a formal representation to the commissioner of the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC), urging authorities to relocate the dumping yard to a site away from residential areas. The association emphasized that immediate intervention is crucial to protect the health and well-being of thousands of residents living in proximity to the facility.
"The dumping yard in Ameenpur, situated amid several residential colonies, has become a serious health hazard and a life-threatening issue for people living in the surrounding areas, especially children and the elderly," the association stated in their letter to the commissioner. "We request your kind intervention on humanitarian grounds so that the residents of these colonies can breathe clean air and live in a healthy environment."
Multiple Environmental and Infrastructure Challenges
Beyond the odor and smoke problems, residents have highlighted several additional concerns:
- Constant movement of garbage trucks through narrow internal roads, which not only creates traffic congestion but also spreads waste and intensifies odor dispersion

In response to mounting pressure, a senior official from the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation acknowledged the concerns and stated, "We have submitted a request to the district collector to identify and allot suitable land outside the Outer Ring Road limits for relocating this facility. Once land is allocated, the dumping yard will be cleared."
