Silchar: In a significant operation, Cachar Police on Tuesday seized 1,420 bottles of banned cough syrup and arrested one individual during a raid in the Udharbond area of the district. The arrested person has been identified as Azizur Haque Barbhuiya, a resident of Durganagar in Udharbond.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs regarding the alleged hoarding of contraband substances, a team from the Udharbond police station conducted a surprise raid at a warehouse owned by Barbhuiya in Durganagar. During the search, law enforcement officers recovered the prohibited cough syrup, which they allege was stored for illegal distribution across the region. The entire consignment was confiscated immediately.
Market Value and Investigation
Police sources revealed that the market value of the seized contraband runs into several lakh rupees on the black market. A senior police official stated, "The accused was arrested from the spot and is currently under interrogation. We are investigating the supply chain to determine if a larger trafficking network is operating across the district and to identify other individuals linked to this racket."
