Tragic Fog Accident Claims Lives of Patna Doctor Couple in Vaishali
A devastating road accident in Vaishali district has resulted in the tragic deaths of a government doctor and his wife from Patna. The incident occurred early Saturday morning when dense fog severely reduced visibility on the Muzaffarpur-Patna route.
Details of the Fatal Collision
The accident took place around 4:15 AM near the toll plaza in the Sarai police station area. According to Sarai SHO Mani Bhushan Kumar, the couple's car rammed into a parked truck due to the extremely poor visibility caused by thick fog. Following the collision, the truck driver reportedly fled the scene, leaving the victims trapped in their vehicle.
Victims Identified as Respected Medical Professionals
The deceased have been identified as Dr. Jitendra Prasad (56), who was posted at Araria Sadar Hospital, and his wife Jyotishina Prasad (50). Both were residents of Patna district. The couple had traveled from Araria to Patna specifically to visit Jyotishina's ailing mother, who is currently admitted to a hospital.
Dr. Jitendra Prasad was the third among four brothers and is survived by two sons. His elder son, Aditya, follows in his father's footsteps as a government doctor, while the younger son, Abhinav, is a medical aspirant pursuing a career in healthcare.
Recognition for Medical Contributions
Dr. Jitendra Prasad was honored by the state health department on January 16 last year for his remarkable contributions to maternal and newborn health services in Araria district. His dedication to public health services made his sudden loss particularly poignant for the medical community.
Rescue Efforts and Aftermath
The Sarai police station team responded immediately upon receiving information about the accident. Police personnel rescued those trapped in the car and transported them to Hajipur Sadar Hospital. Unfortunately, doctors at the hospital declared the couple dead upon arrival.
The car's driver, identified as Sanjay, son of Araria resident Rajendra Yadav, sustained injuries in the accident and received medical treatment. Remarkably, the couple's pet dog, who was present in the car during the collision, emerged unhurt from the tragic incident.
Safety Concerns in Foggy Conditions
This tragic accident highlights the significant dangers posed by dense fog conditions on Indian roads, particularly during early morning hours. Poor visibility remains a critical factor in numerous road accidents across the country, especially in northern regions during winter months.
The incident serves as a sobering reminder for all motorists to exercise extreme caution when driving in foggy conditions, reduce speed significantly, and use appropriate vehicle lighting to enhance visibility and safety.
