Gas Leak Fire Injures Five Family Members in Rudrapur House
A devastating morning fire caused by a suspected gas leak left five members of a family injured in their residence located in Ward No. 8 near Chamunda Temple in Rudrapur on Wednesday. The incident has raised serious concerns about household safety protocols regarding liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) usage.
Victims Identified and Hospitalized
The injured family members have been identified as Devki, 50, Anita, 30, Sangeeta Devi, 21, three-year-old Parul, and another woman whose name has not been officially released. According to authorities, the emergency unfolded when a distress call was received on the Dial 112 emergency service around 8 am.
Police personnel along with local residents promptly responded to the scene and coordinated the evacuation and transportation of all five victims to the district hospital for urgent medical attention. The swift response from both emergency services and the community proved crucial in managing this hazardous situation.
Medical Condition and Treatment
A medical professional at the district hospital provided an update on the patients' conditions, stating, "All patients are currently out of immediate danger, though some have sustained significant burn injuries ranging from 15 to 40 per cent of their body surface area. Treatment protocols are actively ongoing, and we are monitoring their recovery closely."
The varying degrees of burn injuries suggest that the fire spread rapidly through the household, affecting different family members with differing severity. Medical teams are employing comprehensive burn care techniques to ensure optimal recovery outcomes for all victims.
Fire Department Response and Safety Advisory
Fire officer Mahesh Chand confirmed that firefighting teams managed to bring the blaze under control within a remarkably short timeframe, preventing further property damage and potential loss of life. He emphasized the critical importance of gas safety measures in residential settings.
Chand issued a crucial safety advisory for all households using LPG cylinders: "In the event of a suspected gas leak, immediately turn off the regulator at the source. Avoid operating any electrical switches or appliances that could generate sparks, and ensure proper ventilation by opening windows and doors to disperse the gas. These simple precautions can prevent catastrophic accidents."
The fire department's investigation into the exact cause of the leak is ongoing, with preliminary findings pointing toward possible regulator malfunction or connection issues. This incident serves as a stark reminder for all residents to regularly inspect their gas installations and follow recommended safety guidelines.
