GMDA to Monitor Gurgaon Sector Roads Round-the-Clock Ahead of Monsoon
GMDA to Monitor Gurgaon Sector Roads Round-the-Clock

The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) is set to implement round-the-clock monitoring and maintenance of sector roads across the city. This decision follows an inspection led by GMDA CEO PC Meena on Saturday, where he assessed the current state of maintenance, cleanliness, and drainage readiness ahead of the monsoon season.

Inspection Findings

During the inspection, several deficiencies were identified, including incomplete desilting, uncleared debris, and inadequate road safety measures. These gaps prompted Meena to direct each division to form multiple field teams dedicated to real-time reporting, coordination, and supervision.

Zero-Tolerance Policy

Officials have stated that the authority has adopted a zero-tolerance approach toward negligence. Critical areas requiring immediate attention have been pinpointed. The newly formed teams will maintain constant communication through WhatsApp groups, which will be directly monitored by the CEO to ensure accountability.

Team Responsibilities

The field teams are tasked with a range of duties to improve road conditions and monsoon preparedness:

  • Removing silt and sediment from drains to prevent blockages.
  • Clearing construction and demolition waste from roadsides.
  • Repairing and covering damaged or open slabs that pose hazards.
  • Removing abandoned kerb stones and loose materials that could endanger commuters.

Additional Safety Measures

Officials have also been instructed to ensure proper placement and repainting of jersey barriers. This measure aims to improve visibility and enhance safety, particularly on high-speed corridors and accident-prone stretches. Furthermore, teams are ordered to prioritize the trimming of wild vegetation, scientifically dispose of horticultural waste, and maintain green belts. These areas often become dumping grounds and contribute to waterlogging during heavy rainfall.

CEO PC Meena emphasized the importance of strict oversight: “We are enforcing strict monitoring and accountability to ensure that sector roads remain safe, clean and fully prepared for the monsoon. Dedicated teams and real-time oversight will significantly improve execution efficiency, drainage management and overall city upkeep. Regular inspections will be conducted, and any negligence will not be tolerated.”

Monsoon Preparedness

The initiative comes as Gurgaon braces for the monsoon season, which typically causes waterlogging and clogged drains, disrupting traffic and exposing gaps in civic preparedness. An official stated, “All officers concerned have been directed to act immediately and maintain continuous vigilance to ensure that infrastructure standards, cleanliness and public safety are not compromised.”
