In a devastating incident that has left families shattered, seven passengers aboard an air ambulance were killed on Monday evening when the aircraft crashed near Simaria in Jharkhand's Chatra district. The flight was en route from Ranchi to Delhi, carrying critically ill patients and medical personnel, when tragedy struck, highlighting systemic failures in regional healthcare infrastructure.
Families Mourn Irreplaceable Losses
The victims' families are grappling with profound grief, mourning loved ones whose lives were cut short. One relative spoke emotionally about Sachin Kumar Mishra, a nursing paramedical staff member who perished in the crash. "My younger brother, Sachin Kumar Mishra, was everything to me—my own child, my whole world," the relative said. "Since our father passed away, he was my sole support. He worked tirelessly in ambulance services for years, despite our repeated pleas to take a safer hospital job. I urged him to stay with me; he was the foundation of my life. Educating and supporting him was my pride, and he began working young to help our family during difficult times. Without him, my life feels utterly incomplete."
Healthcare System Criticized After Fatal Crash
Another family member revealed that Sanjay Prasad, a victim severely burned in a domestic accident, was being transferred to Delhi due to inadequate treatment in Ranchi. "Sanjay suffered severe burns from a gas cylinder explosion at his small hotel and showed no improvement in local hospitals," the relative explained. "We arranged a private jet to move him to Delhi, but it crashed. My demand to the government is clear: the healthcare system is extremely weak. Even private facilities become hardships, and today, that hardship turned into death. Our home is destroyed, and many families are ruined. The government here is incapable and inactive. If proper treatment had been available in Ranchi, we wouldn't have needed to risk the journey to Delhi. This tragedy has wiped out my entire family, leaving two children orphaned—their future uncertain."
Political Response and Investigation Details
Former Chief Minister and BJP leader Champai Soren expressed grief over the incident in a post on X, stating, "I pray for the deceased individuals, including the crew members aboard the plane, from Marang Buru (the supreme tribal deity), and for strength to their families during this difficult time." According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) website, the aircraft was operated by Delhi-based non-scheduled operator Redbird Aviation, which has six aircraft in its fleet, including the one involved in the crash. Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident, with initial reports pointing to potential technical or operational failures.
