Kanpur: Amid an extreme heatwave, Kanpur district magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh on Thursday ordered special arrangements for both people and birds affected by the scorching weather. As part of the initiative, bowls filled with water were placed at various locations in the Collectorate complex to provide relief to birds struggling in the extreme temperatures. At the same time, arrangements for cold drinking water and ORS packets were made for traffic policemen, home guards, and PRD personnel who have been continuously performing duty under the blazing sun.
DM's Appeal to Residents
The district magistrate stated that in view of the heatwave alert issued by the Indian Meteorological Department, everyone needs to exercise special caution. Appealing to the residents, he urged them to ensure that they place water in a container, trough, or earthen bowl at their homes, rooftops, shops, offices, and other safe spots in their surroundings. He emphasized that during this period of intense heat, even a small effort can prove to be a lifesaver for birds, squirrels, and other living creatures.
Awareness Campaign at Railway Station
A team of volunteers led by R.K. Saffad, secretary of the Red Cross Society, raised awareness among passengers and the general public at Kanpur Railway Station regarding precautions against the heatwave. The DM said that even slight negligence during a heatwave could lead to serious health problems.
Residents are advised to stay hydrated, avoid direct sun exposure, and look out for vulnerable groups such as the elderly and children. The administration is closely monitoring the situation and will take further steps as needed to mitigate the impact of the extreme heat.
