Punjab Health Minister Applauds AAP's Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna for Life-Saving Intervention

In a significant development, Punjab Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh on Wednesday lauded the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government's flagship Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna, asserting that the comprehensive Rs 10-lakh health insurance scheme played a crucial role in saving the life of a one-year-old child afflicted with pneumonia. The minister emphasized that the program's design eliminates traditional bureaucratic and financial obstacles, ensuring prompt medical care for vulnerable patients.

Immediate Treatment Without Financial Hurdles

Dr Balbir Singh detailed the case of the child, identified as Khwaish, who required urgent medical attention due to severe pneumonia. He contrasted the current scenario with past practices, noting, "Earlier, in many such critical situations, families were compelled to first secure funds, complete extensive documentation, and await approvals before treatment could commence. This often led to dangerous delays. However, under the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna, this gap has been effectively removed."

The minister highlighted that in this instance, treatment was initiated immediately without any upfront payment from the family. "The family did not have to arrange funding or undergo verification steps, allowing doctors to begin treatment at a critical juncture. In cases involving young children, even short delays can precipitate severe complications, but immediate access to treatment ensured that the child received timely care and recovered safely," he explained.

Widespread Impact Across Punjab Districts

Dr Balbir Singh further claimed that similar success stories are emerging from various districts, including Sangrur and Mansa, where newborns requiring specialized care—such as treatment for low birth weight and other critical conditions—are benefiting from the scheme without financial impediments. "The Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna ensures that treatment is not delayed by financial or administrative hurdles, providing a lifeline to countless families," he added.

The scheme offers cashless health coverage of up to Rs 10 lakh per family annually, facilitating access to treatment across a network of empanelled government and private hospitals. With more than 26 lakh Sehat Cards already issued, patients are availing services at over 900 empanelled hospitals, supported by more than 2,300 medical packages, according to the minister.
