A pregnant woman delivered a baby inside a stranded 108 emergency vehicle after it broke down on a bridge near Ankawadi village in Khargone district. Health officials reported that the incident occurred in Gogawan block on Sunday night when Sanju, who was in advanced labour, was being taken to a healthcare facility. The ambulance developed a mechanical fault and stopped on the bridge, leaving the mother and child in a critical situation.
Emergency Response and Delivery
Bistan Primary Health Centre nursing officer Neha Kadam informed media that ASHA worker Bhavana Sisodiya alerted her that the baby's head had already emerged, putting both lives at risk. Kadam rushed to the spot and, with the assistance of staff members, conducted the delivery inside the ambulance. The quick action ensured the safe birth of a baby girl weighing 2.5 kg.
Medical Care and Transfer
Gogawan block medical officer Dr. Ahmed Khan stated that another ambulance was arranged to transport the mother and baby to Bistan PHC. After primary treatment, they were referred to the district hospital. The woman, who was undergoing her third delivery, and her newborn were discharged on Monday after their condition was found to be stable.
Action Against Service Provider
Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr. Daulat Singh Chauhan told TOI that a report on the incident was submitted to Collector Bhavya Mittal. The report seeks action against the ambulance service provider and informs the administration about the circumstances that led to the emergency delivery. The incident highlights the challenges faced in rural healthcare and the importance of reliable emergency services.
