Bokaro: A 50-year-old woman died on Friday allegedly after a delay in blood processing and transfusion at Giridih Sadar Hospital, sparking outrage among relatives who accused the hospital administration and blood bank staff of gross negligence.
Incident Details
Meena Devi of Phoolchi village in Giridih had been suffering from severe anaemia for a long time and was admitted on Thursday after her condition worsened. Doctors advised an immediate blood transfusion, and the family arranged a donor and deposited blood at the hospital blood bank. Relatives alleged that staff said the sample would be sent to Ranchi for testing and that blood would be available by Friday morning.
Her husband, Dhiren Rai, stated that they took her home overnight as they lived nearby. On Friday, they were allegedly asked to submit her sample again. “The sample was submitted immediately, but the blood bank staff kept us waiting for nearly two hours,” Rai alleged.
Hospital Response
Civil surgeon Dr. Bachcha Singh said a preliminary probe found negligence by a lab technician and that termination proceedings were initiated. The hospital administration has assured a thorough investigation into the matter.
