Rajahmundry: A woman doctor died by suicide in West Godavari district on Friday. The deceased, Penmanta Vijaya Lakshmi (40), was working as a gynaecologist at the government hospital in Narsapuram.
Incident Details
Vijaya Lakshmi was residing in Bhimavaram with her husband Chandrasekhar Verma, who runs a private hospital in the town. The couple has two children. According to police, Vijaya Lakshmi usually slept in her room along with her son. On the day of the incident, she reportedly asked the child to sleep in his father's room. Suspecting something amiss, Chandrasekhar tried to open the door of her room but found it locked from inside. Later, Chandrasekhar and Vijaya Lakshmi's mother broke open the door and found her hanging from the ceiling. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where first aid and CPR were administered by nurses. However, doctors declared her dead.
Police Investigation
Bhimavaram Two Town Sub-Inspector Rehman said a case has been registered under suspicious death and an investigation is underway.
