The Department of Social Security, Women and Child Development is set to establish a state-of-the-art government-owned and managed old age home for senior citizens in Mohali. The Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) has allotted 2.92 acres of land in Sector 78 for this project.
Minister highlights commitment to elderly welfare
Punjab’s Minister for Social Security, Women and Child Development, Dr Baljit Kaur, said, “Our elderly are our invaluable asset and guiding light. At this stage of life, caring for them is the foremost duty of the government.”
Kaur further added that to expedite the project, a letter has been issued to the Estate Officer (Plots), GMADA, PUDA Bhawan, Mohali. They have been requested to complete all required formalities for handing over physical possession of the allotted site to the District Social Security Officer, Mohali, at the earliest, in accordance with the prescribed procedures. This will pave the way for the immediate commencement of construction work.
Project details and next steps
The old age home will be located in Sector 78, a developing area in Mohali. The land allotment marks a significant step towards providing dedicated infrastructure for senior citizens. Once operational, the facility will offer accommodation and care services for the elderly, managed entirely by the government.
The project aligns with the Punjab government's broader social welfare initiatives, focusing on the dignity and well-being of senior citizens. Minister Kaur emphasized that the government is committed to ensuring that the elderly receive proper care and support in their golden years.
