A woman from Ahmedabad's Maninagar area recently contacted the Abhayam women helpline with a disturbing accusation. She alleged that her father had been sexually inappropriate with her seven-year-old daughter, sparking immediate concern and investigation.
Investigation Reveals Unexpected Truth
When counsellors from the helpline reached the location, they discovered a completely different scenario from the initial complaint. The accused man, identified as a senior citizen and former police official, had been caring for his granddaughter following his daughter's divorce.
Due to the mother's work commitments, the child frequently stayed with her grandfather, who would prepare her for school and drop her off daily. The man explained that his daughter was undergoing psychiatric treatment and had made similar allegations in the past.
The former police officer stated that after previous episodes, he became concerned about his daughter's paranoia and installed surveillance cameras throughout his house, including his bedroom. He cooperated fully with investigators by providing access to footage from previous days.
Child's Testimony Supports Grandfather
In a crucial development, the seven-year-old girl was interviewed separately in the presence of a child counsellor. The child clearly stated that her mother's allegations were false and expressed happiness about spending time with her grandfather.
The young girl revealed that she preferred her grandfather's company because her mother sometimes experienced angry outbursts and had physically struck her on one occasion. This testimony significantly contradicted the mother's claims and supported the grandfather's version of events.

The Abhayam team has placed the case under observation and instructed both the child and mother to report any future incidents. The mother has been advised to continue her psychiatric treatment to address the underlying issues that led to the false allegations.
