Ahmedabad Mother Attempts Suicide Over Daughter's Online Love Affair
In a distressing incident from Ahmedabad, a woman residing in the Chandkheda area attempted to take her own life due to her daughter's romantic involvement with a young man she met online. The situation escalated to such a degree that police investigators and the woman's brother urgently contacted the Abhayam women's helpline for intervention.
Counselling Intervention Averts Tragedy
A team of counsellors from the helpline was dispatched to provide immediate support and guidance to both the mother and her 19-year-old daughter. According to a counsellor involved in the case, the mother was deeply concerned about her daughter's future, as the youth involved is only 20 years old and not yet of marriageable age. She had repeatedly urged her daughter to prioritize her career over the relationship.
Extreme Step Taken by Mother
Despite the mother's pleas, the daughter continued to meet with the youth, leading the mother to resort to an extreme measure in desperation. The counsellor explained that the mother's actions stemmed from fear and a desire to protect her daughter from potential heartbreak or instability.
Resolution Through Counselling
During the counselling session, the daughter was asked to call the youth on the spot to clarify his intentions regarding marriage. When the youth failed to arrive as promised, the daughter came to a realization about the unreliability of the relationship. This moment of clarity prompted her to agree to focus on her career and take better care of her mother, thereby de-escalating the crisis.
The intervention by the Abhayam helpline team proved crucial in preventing a tragic outcome and fostering a path toward reconciliation and understanding within the family.
