Army's Advanced Eye Camp in Remote Kutch Brings Vision to 200 Patients
In a significant humanitarian initiative, Brigadier Sanjay Kumar Mishra from Uttar Pradesh has once again spearheaded an advanced surgical eye camp in the remote border regions of Kutch, Gujarat. The camp was meticulously organized at the military hospital located in Bhuj, demonstrating the Indian Army's unwavering commitment to serving underprivileged communities in far-flung areas.
Massive Screening and Surgical Success
Under the expert leadership of Brigadier Mishra, who serves as the consultant and head of ophthalmology at the prestigious Army Hospital (Research & Referral) in Delhi, a dedicated medical team successfully performed an impressive 200 advanced sight-restoring surgeries. These life-changing procedures were conducted using state-of-the-art, world-class medical equipment, ensuring the highest standards of care and precision.
The surgical camp was the culmination of weeks of intensive preparation and groundwork. Starting on January 15, the team embarked on an extensive screening drive, evaluating over 2,500 underprivileged individuals from the Lakhpat taluka in Kutch. This comprehensive effort aimed to identify those most in need of critical eye care interventions.
Collaborative Effort Reaches Remote Villages
To ensure that even the most isolated villages were not left out, the camp featured a collaborative team of expert ophthalmologists drawn from multiple military medical institutions across the country. Specialists from Military Hospital Ahmedabad, Command Hospital Southern Command (CHSC) in Pune, the 2075 Field Hospital, and Military Hospital Bhuj pooled their expertise and resources. This coordinated approach enabled the team to effectively cover vast and difficult-to-access terrains, bringing advanced ophthalmological services directly to the doorsteps of remote communities.
High-Level Visit and Commendation
The camp's success and the Army's dedication to public welfare received high-level recognition during a visit by Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh. He toured the facility in Bhuj and personally commended the medical team for their exemplary service and commitment. "The Army's efforts in extending such critical healthcare to remote border areas are truly commendable and reflect our nation's ethos of service," Singh stated during his visit.
Accompanying the Defence Secretary was Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Command. Their presence underscored the strategic importance and the humanitarian value of such medical outreach programs conducted by the armed forces in challenging regions.
This eye camp is part of a broader series of initiatives led by Brigadier Mishra, who has consistently worked to bridge the healthcare gap in India's border and rural areas.
