Delhi Government to Launch 20 Specialized Geriatric Ambulances
In a significant move to bolster emergency medical services for the elderly, the Delhi government is set to introduce 20 advanced geriatric ambulances. Health Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh announced this initiative, which aims to strengthen pre-hospital care and response times for senior citizens across the capital.
Enhanced Features for Elderly Healthcare Needs
These specialized ambulances will be equipped with modern life-support systems and tailored facilities designed specifically to address the unique healthcare requirements of elderly patients. The focus is on providing immediate, effective medical attention during emergencies, ensuring that age-specific conditions are managed promptly and efficiently.
Expansion of Centralised Accident and Trauma Services Fleet
With the addition of these 20 geriatric ambulances, the Centralised Accident and Trauma Services fleet will expand from 331 to 351 vehicles. This service is accessible via the toll-free number 102 and is fully integrated with the 112 Emergency Response Support System, forming a critical component of Delhi's emergency healthcare network.
Long-Term Vision for Emergency Response System
The government has outlined ambitious plans to gradually scale the ambulance fleet up to 1,000 vehicles, aiming to build a more robust and future-ready emergency response system. This expansion is part of a broader strategy to enhance healthcare accessibility and infrastructure throughout Delhi.
Substantial Financial Backing for Health Sector
This initiative is supported by a substantial ₹13,034 crore allocation to the health sector. Beyond expanding emergency services, the government is focusing on completing key hospital projects and upgrading critical care facilities to create a comprehensive healthcare ecosystem.
