Lucknow: King George's Medical University (KGMU) is set to introduce round-the-clock sample collection for pathology and a continuous medicine supply in the Gandhi ward by the end of this week. Vice-Chancellor Prof Soniya Nityanand announced that a 24x7 sample collection centre will be established within the ward. Collected samples will be promptly sent to the central pathology lab, with reports delivered back to the ward. Currently, attendants are required to transport samples to various pathology labs themselves.
Improving Critical Care Services
The Gandhi ward, which houses around 250 beds, manages approximately 100 critical patients, including those in the ICU and on ventilator support. The new 24x7 sample collection service aims to streamline the process, reduce delays, and enhance patient care. Additionally, KGMU is planning to launch a 24x7 hospital revolving fund medical store in the ward. At present, this facility operates only until 8 pm. The extended hours will ensure that essential medicines are available at all times for patients in need.
Benefits for Patients and Attendants
These initiatives are expected to significantly ease the burden on patients' families and attendants, who previously had to manage sample collection and medicine procurement during limited hours. With round-the-clock services, critical patients will receive faster diagnosis and treatment, potentially improving outcomes. The central pathology lab will handle all samples efficiently, ensuring accurate and timely reports.
KGMU continues to enhance its healthcare infrastructure, focusing on patient-centric services. The introduction of 24x7 facilities in the Gandhi ward marks a significant step toward providing uninterrupted medical care to the most vulnerable patients.
