Contract Pharmacist Recruitment Scandal Erupts at Jaipur's SMS Medical College Hospital
A significant controversy has erupted over the recruitment of contract pharmacists at the super speciality hospital affiliated with SMS Medical College in Jaipur. The allegations center on arbitrary removals, blatant favoritism, and serious financial irregularities within the appointment process, raising critical questions about administrative integrity.
Allegations of Arbitrary Removals and Favoritism
Mahaveer Prasad Yadav, the state convenor of the Rajasthan Pharmacist Sangharsh Samiti, has brought these issues to light. He alleges that following the expiration of the previous contractor's term on March 31, 2026, a new work order was issued effective April 1, 2026, to a different firm. In the transition, only 10 to 12 of the pharmacists who were previously working across 21 tender-based positions were permitted to rejoin.
Shockingly, numerous experienced pharmacists were removed without any clear or justified reason. According to Yadav, these seasoned professionals have been replaced by new and inexperienced individuals, compromising the quality of pharmaceutical services at the hospital.
Yadav further contends that there have been widespread complaints regarding favoritism in the selection process, accompanied by a complete lack of transparency. He describes the situation as "extremely serious," emphasizing that these developments cast a shadow over the hospital administration's functioning and necessitate a high-level, impartial, and independent investigation.
Demands for Immediate Action and Probe
In response to these grave allegations, the Rajasthan Pharmacist Sangharsh Samiti has issued a stringent 7-day ultimatum to the hospital administration. The organization's key demands are comprehensive and urgent:
- Immediate reinstatement of all removed experienced pharmacists.
- A high-level probe into the alleged financial irregularities within the appointment and tender process.
- A firm assurance of a transparent, merit-based selection system for all future recruitments.
Threat of Escalated Agitation
Yadav has issued a stern warning: if these demands are not met within the stipulated seven-day period, the Samiti will launch a phased agitation. This potential protest underscores the severity of the grievances and the determination of the pharmacists' body to seek justice and systemic reform.
The scandal at SMS Medical College's hospital highlights critical issues in contract staffing within Rajasthan's healthcare sector, calling for immediate administrative accountability and procedural overhaul.
