A serious road accident on Navale Bridge in Pune left at least fourteen people injured on Friday evening, with victims ranging from young children to elderly citizens. The incident occurred around 5:38 pm, prompting a major emergency response from medical services.

Maharashtra Emergency Medical Services-108 ambulance control room received the distress call reporting a grievous accident. Understanding the severity of the situation, officials immediately dispatched three ambulances to the incident location.

Rescue Operation and Hospital Admissions

Rescue teams faced challenging circumstances as several patients were trapped inside vehicles, requiring extended efforts to free them. The rescue operation continued for a significant duration, with all three 108 ambulances remaining on standby until the mission was completed.

According to the ambulance service team, eight patients were successfully rescued from the accident site during the operation. The injured were transported to two different medical facilities for treatment.

Navale Hospital treated ten patients with various injuries. Dr Arvind Khore, medical director at Navale Hospital, reported that injuries included trauma to the ear, ankle, and foot, along with blunt injuries to the chest and abdomen.

Survivors Recall Terrifying Moments

Satish Waghmare, one of the accident victims, shared his harrowing experience. The 36-year-old was driving his company car from Saswad to Hinjewadi when another vehicle struck him from behind.

"I got a deep gash on my forehead and could hardly figure out what hit me," Waghmare recounted. His memory of the immediate aftermath remains fragmented, though he vaguely recalls people attempting to pull him from the damaged vehicle and transport him to medical care.

Waghmare received treatment at Navale Hospital for his forehead injury, which fortunately was not severe. However, he noted that the company vehicle sustained significant damage in the collision.

Another victim, Amjad Sayyad, suffered more serious injuries. His nephew, Ramzuddin Sayyad, reported that Amjad sustained a fracture requiring surgical intervention. The family was in the process of transferring him to a hospital in Chinchwad, closer to their residence, for continued treatment.

The accident on Navale Bridge has raised concerns about road safety in Pune, particularly as it involved multiple vehicles and resulted in injuries to citizens across all age groups. Authorities continue to investigate the exact cause of the collision.
