Hazaribag: Patient Dies After Wrong Injection at SBMCH, Family Alleges Negligence
Wrong injection leads to patient death at Hazaribag hospital

A tragic incident at a government hospital in Hazaribag has sparked serious allegations of medical negligence after a patient died following the administration of an injection that was not prescribed by his doctor.

Family Alleges Wrong Injection Led to Death

The deceased has been identified as Choudhary Yadav, a 45-year-old resident of Padma. According to his family, Yadav was admitted to the government-run Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and Hospital (SBMCH) on November 30 after consuming pesticide. His condition was reportedly improving, and the family was even in the process of seeking his discharge.

The situation took a fatal turn when an outsourced staff member administered an injection along with a saline solution. Randhir Yadav, the nephew of the deceased, stated, “He suddenly developed a burning sensation after the injection and died shortly afterwards.” The family insists that this injection was not part of the treating doctor's prescription.

Hospital Initiates Probe, Demands for Action

In response to the incident and the ensuing allegations, the hospital administration has constituted a three-member medical team to investigate the matter. Dr. Purti, the superintendent of SBMCH, confirmed the probe and assured that “anyone found guilty would not be spared.”

The family of Choudhary Yadav is demanding strict action against those responsible for what they call gross negligence. The case has drawn political attention as well. Ranjan Chaudhary, the local representative of Hazaribag MP Manish Jaiswal, visited the hospital to assess the situation and has called for a high-level inquiry into the incident.

Broader Questions on Hospital Protocols

This unfortunate event raises critical questions about patient safety protocols and the supervision of outsourced staff in government healthcare facilities. The allegation that a non-prescribed medication was administered points to a potential breach in standard operating procedures.

The outcome of the internal probe is now awaited, as the hospital authorities face pressure to ensure accountability and restore trust in the institution. The incident underscores the urgent need for stringent checks and balances to prevent such tragedies in the future.
