Theft at Ram Mandir Construction Site

Police in Ayodhya are investigating a theft at the Ram Mandir construction site after CCTV footage captured two suspects entering the premises. The incident occurred late Tuesday night, according to officials. The suspects were seen on camera climbing over a fence and breaking into a storage area where construction materials and tools were kept.

Details of the Incident

Security guards noticed the breach early Wednesday morning and alerted the authorities. A preliminary inventory suggests that copper wires, steel rods, and other building supplies worth approximately Rs 2 lakh were stolen. The CCTV footage shows the suspects spending about 15 minutes inside the site before fleeing with the items.

Police Investigation Underway

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ayodhya, Dr. Shyam Narayan Singh, confirmed the theft and stated that a case has been registered. “We are examining the CCTV footage and questioning nearby residents. The suspects appear to be local, and we hope to apprehend them soon,” Singh said. The police have formed multiple teams to track down the culprits.

Security Measures Reviewed

Following the incident, security at the Ram Mandir construction site has been tightened. Additional guards have been deployed, and more CCTV cameras are being installed. The Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, which oversees the construction, has urged the police to ensure swift action. The trust’s general secretary, Champat Rai, stated, “We have full faith in the police. This incident will not delay the construction timeline.”

Impact on Construction

The theft has raised concerns about the security of the site, which is a high-profile project. However, officials emphasized that the stolen materials are easily replaceable and will not affect the progress of the temple’s construction, which is on track for completion by January 2024. The trust has also advised workers to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
