Activists have raised serious allegations of a vaccine scam in Bengaluru, claiming that dog bite numbers are being artificially inflated. According to them, the monthly figure of 2,000 dog bite cases is exaggerated, with many people receiving vaccines for minor interactions with dogs, such as a lick or a touch.
GBA Officials Respond
Officials from the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) have acknowledged that the numbers could indeed be higher than actual bite incidents. They explained that people often seek vaccination even for trivial dog contacts, and every person receiving the vaccine is counted as a dog bite case. This practice, they say, contributes to the inflated statistics.
Activists Cry Foul
Activists, however, are not convinced. They argue that this systematic inflation amounts to a scam, as it boosts demand for vaccines and potentially benefits certain stakeholders. They demand a thorough investigation into the matter and call for transparent reporting of dog bite incidents.
The controversy has sparked a debate about public health policies and the management of stray dog populations in the city. As the dispute continues, residents are urged to remain vigilant and report only genuine dog bite cases to ensure accurate data and appropriate resource allocation.
