Prayagraj Hosts ANRP Workshop to Enhance Newborn Care

An Advanced Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (ANRP) workshop, focused on saving the lives of newborns, was conducted at Motilal Nehru Medical College in Prayagraj on Sunday. The primary objective of the workshop was to train physicians and healthcare workers to provide essential life-saving medical assistance to newborns immediately after birth.

Collaborative Organization

The program was organized under the joint aegis of the Department of Pediatrics at MLN Medical College, the Prayagraj branch of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP), the National IAP, and the National Neonatology Forum. This collaboration brought together expertise from various levels to ensure comprehensive training.

Hands-on Training for Participants

Dr. Manish Maurya, head of the pediatrics department and course coordinator for the workshop, stated that 36 participants received training during the program. To ensure high-quality instruction, one facilitator was assigned for every six trainees. Participants engaged in hands-on training covering bag-mask ventilation, respiratory support, neonatal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and other life-saving techniques. This practical approach aimed to equip healthcare providers with the skills needed to handle critical situations effectively.

National Neonatal Action Plan

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. A.K. Verma, principal of MLN Medical College, emphasized the importance of such training in achieving the targets set under the 'Indian Neonatal Action Plan.' He noted that the plan aims to reduce the neonatal mortality rate to fewer than 10 deaths per 1,000 live births. Workshops like this are crucial steps toward meeting that goal by improving the quality of care provided to newborns.

The Golden Minutes

Dr. Neelam Singh, SIC of SRN Hospital, highlighted the critical importance of the first few minutes following birth, often referred to as the 'Golden Minutes.' She explained that timely and appropriate medical assistance during this crucial period can save the lives of many newborns and prevent severe complications. The training provided in the workshop is designed to ensure that healthcare workers are prepared to act swiftly and effectively during these vital moments.

The successful conduct of the ANRP workshop reflects the commitment of medical institutions and professional bodies to improving neonatal care and reducing mortality rates in the region.
