The district health department of Gaya will observe May 16 as Dengue Day, aiming to create awareness among the public about the deadly disease ahead of the monsoon season. Health officials have been instructed to involve municipal bodies, educational institutions, hospitals, and other stakeholders in community sensitization and early medical intervention.
Preventive Measures Planned
Civil surgeon Dr. Raja Ram Prasad stated that the civic body has been directed to ensure timely waste disposal, prevent waterlogging, and carry out regular fogging and spraying. Vulnerable rural areas are under surveillance, with enhanced monitoring planned before the monsoon to curb mosquito breeding and minimize dengue risk.
Health Expert's Warning
Non-communicable disease officer Dr. E. Haque explained that dengue is an acute illness marked by fever and rashes, while severe cases can lead to plasma leakage and shock, requiring hospitalization. The initiative underscores the importance of early detection and prevention.
Community participation is crucial, and residents are urged to eliminate stagnant water, use mosquito repellents, and seek medical attention if symptoms appear. The health department will also conduct awareness campaigns in schools and local markets.
