Godhra Family of 4 Dies in Fire Before Son's Engagement Trip
Godhra family dies in fire before engagement trip

A devastating house fire in Godhra, Gujarat, claimed the lives of a family of four in the early hours of Friday, November 21, 2025. The tragedy struck just hours before the family was scheduled to travel to Vapi for the engagement ceremony of one of their sons.

A Tragic Turn of Events

The victims have been identified as Kamal Doshi (50), his wife Deval (45), and their sons Dev (24) and Raj (22). The family was found inside their residence on Bamroli Road by fire and emergency services after neighbours alerted them. Fire officials suspect the blaze began in the early hours while the family was asleep.

How the Fire Engulfed the Home

Preliminary investigations point to a likely cause. Fire officer Mukesh Ahir stated, "While the cause is yet unknown, it appears that an upholstered sofa in the basement caught fire, which then engulfed the entire house." The rapid spread of the fire was exacerbated by the closed windows and doors, which caused the house to fill with dense, toxic smoke.

Officer Ahir added, "The four members, who may have been in their sleep, did not get a chance to escape and probably died due to smoke inhalation." Fire personnel had to break open glass windows to release the smoke before discovering the bodies, covered in soot, on the upper floors of the house.

Aftermath and Investigation

Police and forensic teams quickly reached the spot following the fire service's discovery. The bodies were sent for a postmortem to determine the exact cause of death. The police have registered a case of accidental death, and a thorough investigation into the fire's origin is currently underway.

Kamal Doshi was the owner of Vardhaman Jewellers in Godhra, a well-known figure in the local business community. A relative of the family expressed profound shock, saying, "We cannot believe this has happened. We hope it is a nightmare we wake up from. We were to travel to Vapi... Our entire family is devastated and in deep shock." The incident has sent waves of grief through the community, cutting short the joyous preparations for Dev's engagement.
