Major Boost for Jharkhand's Frontline Health Workers
In a significant move recognizing the crucial role of community health workers, the Jharkhand government has announced a substantial increase in honorariums for over 42,000 Sahiya workers and other health personnel across the state. The decision, announced on Wednesday by the state department of health, medical education and family welfare, represents a major investment in strengthening the healthcare infrastructure at the grassroots level.
Details of the Honorarium Increase
The honorarium for Sahiya workers has been increased by Rs 2,000, providing much-needed financial support to these frontline healthcare providers. According to the official statement from Health Minister Irfan Ansari's office, this revision will require an additional annual budget allocation of Rs 103.11 crore from the state exchequer.
The benefits extend beyond Sahiya workers to include other categories of health workers as well. Sahiya Sathis will receive an additional Rs 50 to their daily remuneration, increasing it from Rs 375 to Rs 425 per day. Similarly, block training team members have been granted a hike of Rs 80, raising their daily honorarium from Rs 650 to Rs 730.
The state Training Team, comprising 48 members, will also benefit from this revision. Their daily honorarium has been increased from Rs 850 to Rs 950, representing a Rs 100 raise per day.
Strengthening Healthcare Delivery
Health Minister Irfan Ansari emphasized that this investment demonstrates the state government's commitment to supporting grassroots health workers and improving community-level healthcare delivery. He described the hike as long-overdue recognition for the relentless service provided by these workers, many of whom operate in remote and challenging environments.
"Sahiya workers form the backbone of the state's health system," Ansari stated, adding that "the revised honorarium is a step toward empowering them with the resources and dignity they deserve."
Officials believe the revised honorarium package will significantly strengthen service delivery, improve health indicators, and bring lasting change to thousands of families who rely on these frontline health workers for essential healthcare services.
Workers Express Gratitude
The announcement has been met with appreciation from the health worker community. Pramila Devi, a Sahiya worker from Kanke, expressed her gratitude for the recognition, stating that the increase will not only strengthen their livelihood but also inspire them to carry out their responsibilities with greater energy and commitment.
"For the first time, we truly feel that our hard work is being recognised and valued," she remarked, capturing the sentiment of many health workers who have long awaited such acknowledgment of their vital contributions to the state's healthcare system.
This substantial honorarium hike marks a significant step in addressing the financial needs of Jharkhand's extensive network of community health workers while simultaneously working to enhance the quality and reach of healthcare services across the state, particularly in remote and underserved areas.
