In a major push for public health, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate a massive state-wide campaign titled 'Health Happiness - Vibe 4 Wellness' on January 1. The initiative, spearheaded by the state's Health Department, aims to inspire a collective commitment to a healthier lifestyle among Keralites.
Massive Participation and Campaign Trail
Health Minister Veena George announced that events are planned across all districts, with an ambitious target of engaging around 10 lakh (1 million) people in synchronized exercise activities on the inauguration day. The campaign has already been building momentum with an announcement rally that commenced from Kasaragod on December 26. This rally has been travelling through various districts and is scheduled to conclude in Thiruvananthapuram coinciding with the launch.
The Four Pillars of 'Vibe 4 Wellness'
The core of the initiative rests on four fundamental components essential for well-being: healthy eating, adequate exercise, proper sleep, and consistent health maintenance. The campaign is a call to action for citizens to make a personal commitment to their health as a New Year's resolution, with a vision set for 2026.
To translate this vision into action, a diverse array of activities will be organized across Kerala. These include:
- Cycling rallies, group runs, and group walks.
- Zumba dance sessions, skating, and flash mobs.
- Traditional practices like Kalaripayattu and indigenous games.
- Sports tournaments, yoga training, and exercise workshops.
- Healthy cooking training and food exhibitions.
Minister George emphasized that the goal is to motivate everyone, especially youth and children, to adopt a sustainable healthy lifestyle. The campaign also seeks collaboration with government agencies, local bodies, and private institutions to develop the necessary infrastructure to support this public health goal.
Rooted in Aardram Mission and Past Success
This wellness drive is not an isolated event but part of the broader Aardram Mission 2.0, under which the health department is implementing ten major projects with a sharp focus on preventing lifestyle diseases. The 'Vibe 4 Wellness' campaign is actually the next phase of the successful 'Health Happiness' public campaign.
Previous phases have shown significant results. Under the Aardram Health campaign, health workers screened individuals over 30 in two phases, revealing that 34% had hypertension and 24% had diabetes. Furthermore, the 'Health Happiness - Prevent Cancer' campaign launched on February 4, 2025, successfully screened over 20 lakh people in two phases.
The new 'Vibe 4 Wellness' chapter builds on this foundation, shifting the emphasis from screening to proactive wellness and daily habit formation. It represents Kerala's comprehensive strategy to combat the rising tide of non-communicable diseases through community participation and preventive healthcare.
