Madurai Minister Launches Water Pipeline Work for 350 Houses

Madurai: Minister for Energy Resources and Law C T R Nirmal Kumar on Sunday initiated the laying of drinking water pipelines to more than 350 houses in Thannakkan Kulam's Vengalamurthy Nagar near Madurai under the Cauvery combined drinking water scheme. The project is estimated to cost approximately ₹4 lakh.

Groundwater Depletion and Pipeline Damage

Speaking to reporters, the minister highlighted that the groundwater level in the area had dropped below 1,000 feet. An inspection revealed that pipelines had been damaged for several months, disrupting the drinking water supply. Temporary arrangements have been made to supply water via lorries, and work to replace the old pipelines has commenced.

Official Presence and Cleanliness Drive

District Collector K J Praveen Kumar was present at the event. Earlier in the day, the minister inaugurated a run for children in Thiruparankundram to promote cleanliness awareness. Approximately 1,500 children participated in the event.
