A 17-year-old NEET aspirant allegedly died by suicide in Lucknow, police confirmed on Friday. The incident occurred on Tuesday, just days before the NEET re-examination scheduled for June 21.
Details of the Incident
The deceased, identified as Suhani Yadav, was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan in her residence. Station House Officer of Bazar Khala police station, Brijesh Singh, stated that no suicide note was recovered from the scene.
Family's Statement
According to the family, Suhani had performed well in the NEET-UG examination held on May 3, which was later cancelled. She was hopeful of clearing the exam but slipped into depression following its cancellation. The family reported that she remained in a depressed state for two to four days before resuming her preparation. They added that she was under significant pressure due to the upcoming examination.
The family originally hails from Patna, and her father works as a Travelling Ticket Examiner in the Railways.
Background of NEET Cancellation
The National Testing Agency (NTA) cancelled the NEET (UG) 2026 exam conducted on May 3 following allegations of a paper leak. The government subsequently requested the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the irregularities.
