Helpless Mother Witnesses Horror at Bus Stand
A woman in her 30s experienced unimaginable trauma on Monday when she gave birth to a baby who died moments later at Mundamurai bus stand near Aska in Ganjam district. The tragedy deepened when crows and vultures descended on the infant's body, dragging it away from the devastated mother as she watched helplessly.
Public Apathy Compounds Tragedy
Despite the woman's anguished cries and desperate situation, none of the passengers present at the bus stand stepped forward to assist her. The incident occurred near the waiting hall of the bus stand, where the woman had delivered her baby without any medical assistance or support from bystanders.
Local fire service personnel from Dharakote eventually arrived at the scene after receiving a distress call. Krushna Chandra Sahoo, assistant officer at Dharakote fire station, described the harrowing scene: "We received a call and rushed to the place. By the time we arrived, the birds had already taken the infant's body from the mother, who was in agony and struggling to save her child."
Rescue Efforts Come Too Late
The fire service personnel drove away the birds and immediately informed the police and local hospital. They transported both the mother and child in an ambulance, but medical confirmation revealed the baby had already passed away.
Social worker Sahadeb Swain expressed deep concern about the public's failure to respond, stating that the infant's life might have been saved with prompt assistance. "The woman was helpless and desperate for support. But those present showed no sympathy, nor did they attempt to protect the child from the birds," he lamented.
The identity of the woman remains unverified as authorities continue their investigation into this heartbreaking incident that highlights concerning levels of public apathy in emergency situations.
