The parents of a three-year-old boy who died following fever-related complications have accused the authorities at Palakkad district hospital of medical negligence. They have demanded a thorough inquiry into the incident. The deceased child has been identified as Daivik, the son of Riju and Shalini from Thenkurussi.
Sequence of Events
According to the family, the child was brought to the district hospital at 8:30 PM on Sunday with a high fever. The parents alleged that during the examination, the child's temperature was recorded at 103 degrees Celsius. Doctors administered paracetamol syrup, which reportedly brought the fever down. Subsequently, the parents claim that doctors advised them to give the child milk and a bun, and sent the child home without admitting him to the hospital.
Deterioration at Home
Relatives stated that shortly after returning home, the child vomited, and his condition worsened throughout the night. The family rushed him back to the district hospital around 3:30 AM, but doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
Allegations and Demands
The family has demanded an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child's death. They also alleged that the body had to be transferred to Alathur taluk hospital because freezer facilities were unavailable at the district hospital. The parents said they would submit complaints to the district medical officer, district collector, and Kuzhalmannam police, seeking a detailed inquiry into the incident.
