Patna Water Safety Audit: PMC Checks All 75 Wards After Indore Crisis
Patna Water Audit: All 75 Wards Checked Post-Indore Scare

In a proactive move to avert a potential public health disaster, the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has conducted a comprehensive safety audit of the city's drinking water supply. This decisive action was triggered by the recent tragic incident in Indore, where sewage seepage into the water supply led to fatalities and widespread illness.

City-Wide Water Testing Initiative

The municipal body undertook this extensive exercise to assess the integrity of Patna's water distribution network and prevent a similar crisis. Technical teams from the PMC were deployed across all 75 wards of the city. From each ward, water samples were collected from five different locations to ensure a representative analysis.

These samples were subjected to rigorous laboratory testing for various scientific parameters, including Total Dissolved Solids (TDS). The findings, compiled in a report submitted to the PMC headquarters on Monday, brought a sigh of relief. The audit revealed that the overall water quality and TDS levels across Patna were within the prescribed safety limits.

Identified Issues and Immediate Corrective Actions

However, the audit was not without its red flags. It identified a few specific locations grappling with technical blockages in the pipelines or exhibiting minor water quality concerns. Taking a strict stance on these findings, the Municipal Commissioner has directed officials to initiate immediate corrective measures.

The ordered actions include:

  • Cleaning and flushing of affected pipelines.
  • Arranging for alternative water supply sources where necessary.

The concerned officials have been given a strict deadline of three days to submit Action Taken Reports (ATRs), ensuring accountability and prompt resolution.

Strengthening Long-Term Safeguards

Looking beyond the immediate response, the PMC is also working to fortify its long-term monitoring mechanisms. The corporation plans to enhance its routine laboratory testing protocols and strengthen field inspection systems to ensure sustained water safety.

Emphasizing the role of community vigilance, the PMC has urged Patna residents to remain alert. Citizens experiencing any issues with their water supply are encouraged to report them promptly through the dedicated PMC helpline number: 155304. This collaborative approach between the civic body and the public is seen as crucial for maintaining public health security.
