In a significant step towards breaking long-held taboos, Enactus Panjab University conducted a dedicated workshop focusing on menstrual health and hygiene. The event, held on Monday at the Gur Aasra Trust, marked the 91st session in the organisation's ongoing Mytharche Series.
Workshop Aims to Foster Open Dialogue and Education
The primary goal of the session was to encourage informed discussions and enhance the overall understanding of menstrual hygiene and health. By addressing pervasive myths and the associated social stigma, the workshop created a platform for open conversation. Prof Seema Kapoor, the faculty advisor for Enactus, emphasised the critical role such sensitisation initiatives play. She highlighted that sustained education and proactive community engagement are powerful tools to dismantle deep-rooted taboos surrounding menstruation.
Expert-Led Session Debunks Common Misconceptions
Leading the informative session was Dr Rajni Lamba, who delved into crucial topics surrounding menstrual hygiene practices. She addressed widespread misconceptions and underscored the urgent need to normalise conversations about this natural biological process. The interactive format of the workshop was a key feature, allowing participants to freely raise questions and share their personal concerns in a supportive and open environment.
Sustainable Solution: Distribution of Reusable Sanitary Napkins
Moving beyond theory, the initiative also provided a practical, sustainable solution. As part of the workshop, reusable cloth-based sanitary napkins were distributed to the attendees. These napkins were developed under Project Uday by Enactus, in collaboration with the CSR Project Amodini of the Versatile Group based in Ludhiana. This distribution aimed not only to provide an eco-friendly product but also to promote accessible and sustainable menstrual hygiene management.
The workshop at Gur Aasra Trust stands as a testament to the power of grassroots educational efforts in challenging social stigmas and promoting health equity. By combining expert knowledge with community interaction and tangible resources, Enactus Panjab University continues to drive meaningful change in the sphere of menstrual health awareness.
