Trichy: Residents of Thirupparaithurai panchayat blocked the Trichy-Karur highway on Thursday, demanding immediate action to address an acute drinking water shortage in the area. The panchayat falls under the Srirangam Assembly constituency represented by HR&CE minister S. Ramesh.
Protest Over Unresolved Complaints
Protesters alleged that repeated complaints to officials had failed to yield any concrete steps to ensure a regular water supply. The road blockade disrupted traffic on the busy highway for several minutes before Jeeyapuram police arrived and held talks with the residents.
Officials Step In
Officials from various departments later joined the discussions and assured the protesters that temporary measures would be implemented immediately, followed by a permanent solution to the water scarcity issue. Following the assurances, the residents withdrew the protest and traffic movement was restored.
