The city of Lucknow has finalized comprehensive arrangements for the large-scale celebration of International Yoga Day on Sunday, with events scheduled across parks, educational institutions, and residential colonies. The preparations, completed on Saturday, aim to involve over 100,000 participants in yoga sessions throughout the city.
Park and Community Yoga Sessions
The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has organized yoga programs and facilitated morning entry to its 12 parks for the occasion. Meanwhile, the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has prepared yoga sessions in 2,200 parks, ready to accommodate approximately 1 lakh participants. Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) in localities such as Gomtinagar, Para, Gomtinagar Extension, and Thakurganj have also made arrangements to conduct sessions with around 10,000 participants.
Main District-Level Program and Dignitaries
The primary district-level event is scheduled at the Residency from 6 am to 8 am, which will be attended by Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak. A women-only yoga session at Jan Bhavan is expected to be led by Governor Anandiben Patel. These high-profile participations underscore the significance of the event at the state level.
Institutional Participation
Lucknow University has planned its yoga program starting at 6:30 am, while Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU) will begin its event at 6 am. Regional Science City has arranged a live yoga session along with expert lectures from 6:30 am onwards. These institutional events are designed to engage students and faculty in the global celebration of yoga.
Municipal and Health Sector Involvement
The LMC's mass yoga session at Jhandi Raj Park in Lalbagh, commencing at 6 am, will be led by Mayor Sushma Kharkwal, with corporators, officials, and employees in attendance. Doctors and staff at major medical institutions including King George's Medical University (KGMU), Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS), Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), and district hospitals are also participating. Max Super Speciality Hospital has scheduled a yoga session from 5 am to 8 am, combining it with free health screenings for attendees.
Special Events and Public Engagement
Lohia Park in Gomti Nagar will host 'The Times of Yoga' event from 6 am. Additionally, residents can stay updated with other local information such as gold and silver rates, bank holidays, public holidays, AQI, weather, and fuel prices in Lucknow through the TOI App.
